Harmonica
Declan is a harmonica player from the Sunshine Coast. He spent most of his childhood split between busking at the Eumundi markets and hanging out backstage at Woodford Folk Festival's blues stage. Before Declan had reached his teens he had shared the stage with Australian legends such as Chain and the Waifs. Notable recent guest performances have been with Luke Dickens, Jeff Martin, and Two Rivers Blues.
Blind Willie Wagtail bring together four highly respected Australian blues musicians into a high energy take on authentic Retro-Blues and Rockabilly. We take inspiration from the styles of Blind Willie McTell & Blind Willie Johnson - the prewar blues slide guitarists of the 1920’s and 30’s. Combined with the electric edge of 1950’s blues stylists like Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf and with an added twist of magic from rock’n’roll legends Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis. Between us ‘Scrubby' Pete Hurcombe, Dirk Dubois, Matt Elliott and special guest Declan Kenrick we have performances and recordings with a plethora of musicians including Chain, Spectrum, Billy Thorpe, Kevin Borich, Canned Heat, Mal Eastick, Lil’Fi, Sugar Ray Norcia, Johnny Johnson, James T, and Buddy Guy. Dubois has even jammed with Taj Mahal and Joss Stone.
